Discord, the new kid in school and hes already taken over the schoolyard!

Discord is the newest and has quickly before the most popular voice and text chat system in use by both gamers and social groups. 

Discords greatest feature is that its free! You can create a communitiy as large or small as you wish and offer hem text chat, voice communication and more with no cost.

As an MMO gamer I used Discord from the very beginning mainly because of its original slogan of being super lightweight especially on a PC's resources. Today Discord is used by a majority of the gaming community for voice and text communication, which MMO gamers have found to be very efficient and high quality.

One of its best features is its cross platform, you can have it on your PC, Mac, Android, iOS and even Linux.

Discords basic use doesn't even require a download, just give a used the address and hey can use Discord from their browser, although the Discord app is highly recommended.

Discord as of late has come to shiny as a platform for organising communities, as an Eve Online player my alliance uses discord to keep members informed of news, announcement and letting people know whats going on ingame in realtime. Useful when a major fleet is happing at 3am my phone will wake me up letting me know a fleets forming :)

Mumble

Mumble is the newest Voice Chat software to hit the internet. releasing in mid January 2012. 
Mumble was designed like other software like Ventrilo and Teamspeak and uses a server channel system like both.


Mumble employs the latest in voice communication that can even allow you to hear other players playing with you at the position that are at. Example is a player running circles around you, on a 5.1 surround sound system the player can be heard moving around your speakers like hes actually running around you.


Mumble is 100% free to download and use, but hosting a channel requires a low monthly fee.


Mumble has gotten critical acclaim from the gaming community, especially those who play FPS shooter games and is shaping up to be the hottest software for casual and pro-gamers alike, already beging adopted by many MMO communities.

Skype

Skype has become one of the most popular Gaming Communication tools for gamers. Its allows free efficient communication between players and does not cost the users anything. Skype does not require a fee or a paid channel, just signup, add your friends and your ready to go.


Skype has found its calling for Gamers across the world in games such as League of Legends and DOTA 2, but its influence and use has found its way to every MMO game on the net.

Ventrilo

Ventrilo, or more commonly know as Vent, is by far the most popular Communication software used in gaming today.


Ventrilo is widely used by Gamers that wish to communicate with a great number of players in multiplayer situations, so it has become the mainstream tool used by guilds and teams across all MMO's.


Ventrilo is free to download and use by everyone if your just using it to access a team channel, but if you wish to host your own channel, you would need to subscribe and pay a low monthy fee for the channel.
